In this international episode of the Waterpolo Expert Talk, I speak with Vince Vigvári, a 21-year-old Hungarian national team player and current Champions League contender with CN Barceloneta, about his rapid rise from Hungarian youth water polo to the Olympic stage and one of Europe’s top clubs.

Vince shares how his journey began at the age of eight, influenced strongly by his father, who was also a water polo player. Water polo was a family decision from the start, while his older sister went into tennis. In dieser intensiven Folge des Waterpolo Expert Talks geht es um eines der sensibelsten Themen im modernen Leistungssport: Dopingkontrollen, medizinische Verantwortung, Anti-Doping-Arbeit und internationale Unterschiede in der Umsetzung der WADA-Regeln.

Ausgehend von der provokanten Frage, warum in manchen Ländern offenbar andere Maßstäbe gelten als in Deutschland oder Europa, wird deutlich, wie groß der Aufwand ist, den Athletinnen und Athleten hierzulande betreiben müssen, um jederzeit sauber, regelkonform und rechtlich abgesichert zu bleiben.

Ein zentrales Thema ist die Rolle des Teamarztes: schnelle Diagnosen, MRT-Termine ohne lange Wartezeiten, konservative Therapie statt unnötiger Operationen, Prävention durch muskuläre Stabilisation – vor allem im Schulterbereich – sowie die enge Zusammenarbeit mit Physiotherapeuten.

Corona im Leistungssport – Ralf Schauer über Fehleinschätzungen, Hygiene-Konzepte & medizinische Lehren

In dieser Folge des Waterpolo Expert Talks blickt Ralf Schauer offen und kritisch auf die Corona-Phase im Wasserball zurück. Aus heutiger Sicht sagt er selbst: „Im Nachhinein habe auch ich in der Corona-Phase vieles unterschätzt.“

Thematisiert werden die enorme Unsicherheit in der Anfangszeit der Pandemie, ständig neue politische Vorgaben, die Entwicklung von Hygiene-Konzepten, tägliche Tests, Quarantäne-Situationen und internationale Einsätze unter Extrembedingungen – etwa bei Turnieren in Israel, Ungarn oder der EM-Qualifikation.

Ralf Schauer schildert eindrücklich:
- den medizinischen Alltag während der Pandemie
- den Umgang mit positiven Fällen in Nationalmannschaften
- schwierige Entscheidungen bei Reisen, Quarantäne & Rückflügen
